Case Study
Campus-wide parking analysis across 3,000 spaces supporting mobility planning and campus development.
Durham College, located just east of Toronto in Oshawa, Ontario, is home to more than 13,000 full-time students across over 140 programs, including a diverse international student population. Durham College required a comprehensive understanding of parking demand across a large and dispersed campus.
Parkalytics was engaged to provide a comprehensive picture of parking conditions on the Oshawa campus, covering both on-street and off-street facilities. Using drones for data collection and proprietary machine learning models, the team measured parking utilization across more than 3,000 parking stalls. This would have been challenging for traditional methods of data collection, given the large size of the campus, the small pockets of parking sprawling placed in various places, and the large roads dividing the campus.
The findings were delivered through Parkalytics’ online analytics tools, enabling campus planners to visualize trends, communicate results with stakeholders, and make informed decisions about future parking supply, student mobility, and the potential repurposing of space to support a more walkable, transit-friendly campus.
